Johnson Finishes 5th/7th in Twin 100s at MMS

posted on June 30 2011

Justin Johnson's on a hot streak, and with a new car owner and new "home track", what seemed like an "off season" for the Durham driver is back on track. Johnson would qualify fifth in the the first of two twin 100 lap races at Motor Mile Speedway in his Rusty Skewes Racing #81 machine. Throughout the race, Johnson held steady, moving up one spot and finishing fourth. Starting third in the second race, Johnson slipped back, falling to 7th, marking the worst finish for the #81 at Motor Mile this season. The 7th place finish marks the nineth consecutive top 10 finish on the season, with an overall average finish of fifth. Justin returns to South Boston Speedway this Friday for their big 200 lap event.

Johnson Takes Sole Possession of Second Place at South Boston

posted on June 2 2011

The Italian Delight Twin 75s at South Boston provided teams with an excellent chance to make gains in the season-long point battle. With over 20 cars in attendance, a great day can help, but a bad day could be catastrophic.

Justin Johnson put his Charles Boyd GM, Puryear Tank Lines Chevy 12th, just behind former national champion Peyton Sellers. Early on it was clear Johnson had a car to move to the front, and Johnson was to 8th after just 10 laps. A late caution allowed Johnson to take the high side on a restart, moving him up to fourth, but a late run by Natalie Sather placed Johnson fifth after the first race.

With his top five finish, Johnson would start fifth for race 2, and spend the majority of the second race battling with Natalie Sather. Sather would fade late, and Johnson would finish fourth.

Over the span of both races, Josh Oakley would complete a total of five laps, putting Justin Johnson securely in second place in points, just behind Philip Morris.

Justin Johnson returns to South Boston Speedway in defense of his two-time track title with 150 laps of racing against the South Boston Speedway regulars. For more information go to http://www.southbostonspeedway.com
